Austin Powers is Forced to Let Go of His "Goldmember"
LA LA LAND MGM, the studio which makes the James Bond films, has won an arbitration ruling that New Line Cinema, home of the Austin Powers movies, cannot use the title "Goldmember" for its next Austin Powers movie.
MGM claimed that "Goldmember" is a spoof of the 1964 Bond film, "Goldfinger." Well, duh!
MGM also claimed that the trailers and posters for the movie mimicked trailers and posters for past Bond films. If mimicry or parody is a crime, boy is this newspaper in trouble!
Mike Myers, who plays Austin Powers, is coming under attack from the American Dental Association for playing a character who has such crooked teeth.
Myers and New Line are also coming under attack for other characters in the Austin Powers movies.
The American Medical Association objects to the character Dr. Evil. The Society for Little People objects to the character Mini-Me. The Society of People of Girth objects to the character Fat Bastard, as does the Society of Children Born to Unwed Parents.
However, the Society of Scottish People of Girth Born to Unwed Parents wants to adopt Fat Bastard as their mascot.
